The original design of the Health Building included a swimming pool in the basement, but it was dropped due to its prohibitive expense. In 1932 Cherry wrote Davis: "There is very great desire…for the pool. I do not know of any one thing that will do more in helping to build the attendance." Davis designed an outdoor pool, still fondly remembered by former students and townsfolk. The pool was removed when the Cravens Library and Graduate Center was built in 1971.
