Library
With assistance from Western’s librarian, Margie Helm, Davis designed the school’s first library building in 1927. Resembling the modified French Renaissance style with rusticated base and an Ionic colonnade, the "fire-proof" building housed the college’s library collections, a growing Kentuckiana collection, and a small theater for student productions. A freshman in 1943 characterized the library as "an old spinster…who holds her face directly into the wind, never flinching no matter how strong its attempt to ruffle the countenance of the massive house of books."
