Capitol Arts Alliance

Members of the community were invited to come and participate with the Capitol Arts Alliance in Expressing Kentucky at the Capitol Arts Center. All ages gathered with artist Delaire Rowe on several Saturdays to plan and sketch, then paint and create a large mural.

After discussing ideas for the mural, participants made sketches of their thoughts. The sketches were then combined to form a larger composition and transferred to a canvas.

"I like to do artwork because you get to get messy and it's just fun to paint."    Kentuckiana Girl Scout

The group painted the final mural inside the Capitol Arts Center for all to come and enjoy.

"...there are kind of no mistakes because it's original art and it's just fun to be able to paint even if you are good or not."   Jennifer

Sponsored in part by a grant from the Kentucky Arts Council a state agency in the Education, Arts and Humanities Cabinet.

Gennie: "Well I think it is neat to see how it has progressed from the sketches on the first day and when they all came together and how it looks now. It looks really great. What was your favorite part Granny?"

Gloria: "Oh, I just like the whole thing myself - the ideas and I love those bright colors. I just think it's really interesting. It's been fun for me because it's got me interested doing art again. I just really enjoyed it."
