| Barren
River Adult Day Care Center |
The goal of the Barren River Adult Day Care Center is to preserve the dignity and enhance the quality of life for those served through a caring, stimulating, and enjoyable environment. The center provides service for frail and disabled adults of any age who have difficulty taking care of themselves at home, but wish to maintain their independence. Those in the program interact with staff and other participants in a friendly environment and engage in a wide variety of activities.
The wall hanging "I Remember" shown
below is the product of many hands; a collaboration of individual stories brought
together into a work of art. It all started with memories. Participants from
the Barren River Adult Day Care Center worked with Artist-in-Residence Delaire
Rowe writing about and illustrating a memory. Rowe put the sketches together
into a preliminary drawing which was transferred onto a large canvas. The canvas
was then painted by members of the group. Lastly, quilt artist, Colleen Hathaway
prepared the piece for final display and hanging.

"I enjoyed doing the project even though the moving of my arms hurt my chest. Painting the blue and green shapes reminded me of my parents' home where the creek runs through the green field. I liked to paint my kitchen, but now I'm not able, so painting this picture really made me happy." Ma |
