The Martha Graham Paper Doll Quilt
, 1999
Hand Applique and Reverse Applique
65 x 90 inches
Rebekka Seigel

This is the fourth wall hanging in a series of paper doll quilts made by this quilt artist. Seigel chose Martha Graham as its subject because of her contributions to the world of dance.

The costumes are miniature duplicates of those worn by the dancers in some of Graham's most famous works. Seigel placed them on a background reminiscent of a painting by Wassily Kandinsky because Graham admired Kandinsky's approach in the field of visual arts.
