This quilt is based upon the Cosmos flower, earth and sky. According to the quiltmaker, her original design was "inspired as my expression of wild cosmos which bloom profusely under an autumn sky."

Sago Is representative of the expanding interest in quiltmaking among Japanese women. In 1986 she learned how to quilt at a school in Japan.
