William L. Matthews (1887-1971)



W. L. Matthews was a Crittenden County, Kentucky native who received degrees from Western Kentucky
State Normal School and Teachers College (now Western Kentucky University) in 1924 and Peabody
College, Nashville in 1927. He became Director of Western's Training School in 1930.

When W. S. Ashby retired in 1938, Matthews purchased his interest in the Bowling Green Business
University and became second Vice President. He became Vice President and Dean in 1945 upon the
retirement of J. Lewie Harman.
