The CCC enrollees spent 9,000 man-days planting around 1 million trees in the Mammoth Cave National Park area. Today as you look around at the forested ridges and valleys, you are looking at the work of these men from over 70 years ago. Much of the land had previously been cleared farm land, and the planting of these trees helped to create a natural setting and also helped to prevent erosion in many areas.
