NP-3 Camp, Company 582, was
established on February 9, 1934. It was located on Joppa Ridge.
The enrollees of this camp were responsible for fire hazard reduction
for thousands of acres, repaired a vacant log cabin to be used as
a fire patrol shelter, were responsible for fire suppression and
fire patrol, and manned two lookout fire towers in their area. The
enrollees also helped in the construction of cave trails, and on
the surface were responsible for trail maintenance and fence removal
and demolition of undesirable buildings. Enrollees assisted hired
professionals in the field as drivers, checking weather observations,
etc.
NP-3 Camp was disbanded in 1938.
