Expressing Kentucky-School
Groups Come and see what Kentucky children have created as
part of the museum's Community Artist-in-Residence program "Expressing
Kentucky." This everchanging exhibit displays the artwork of regional
students who have worked with local artist Delaire Rowe after viewing
the building's Kentucky related collections and exhibits.Visit the museum

Expressing
Kentucky-Houchens Center Exhibit Come learn about the process wherein individuals representing the numerous clubs and groups affiliated with the Houchens Center created a wall hanging composed of 20 blocks that symbolized these organizations and individuals as well as illustrated ideas and symbols of Bowling Green, Warren County and the state of Kentucky. Unified by visiting artist Colleen Hathaway into one composition, the Houchens Center wall hanging is joined by photographs, quotes, an art quilt made by Ms. Hathaway, and a painting created by Community Artist-in-Residence Delaire Rowe. Expressing Kentucky is a community arts project of the Kentucky Museum at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green and the Kentucky Arts Council.
The 2000 Scholastic Art Awards: South Central
Kentucky Regional Exhibition February 5-20, 2000 This exhibit
features middle and high school art from young artists around the area.
The Scholastic Art Awards were launched in 1923 to encourage and recognize
student achievement in the creative arts. This regional competition is
a coordinated effort of the Capitol Arts Center, Western Kentucky University
and the Kentucky Museum.Gold Award winners advance to the national competition

Expressing
Kentucky-Barren River Adult Day Care Center at Western Kentucky University
The wall
hang "I Remember" is a product of many hands. It is a collaboration
of individual stories brought together into a work of art. It all started
with memories. Participants in the project were aked to write about and
illustrate those memories. All the sketches were put together and painted
onto a large canvas.The wall hanging is joined by photographs, sketches,
quotes, and a painting created by Community Artist-in-Residence Delaire
Rowe. Expressing
Kentucky is a community arts project of the Kentucky Museum at Western
Kentucky University in Bowling Green and the Kentucky Arts Council. Joe
Dudley Downing 2000 Joe Downing
is returning to Bowling Green for his third exhibition at the Kentucky
Museum. Living and painting in France since the early 1950s, Downing periodically
visits Kentucky to connect with his rural roots. This exhibit promises
to be an exciting array of Downing's impressive works of art. Joe
Dudley Downing 2000 is also available to view online. Sponsored by
South Central Bank, First Union Securities, Kentucky Banking Centers,
Sue and Sydney Bunnell, and Austin Duckett.
Expressing
Kentucky This cumulative
exhibit of Expressing Kentucky features photographs of the projects participants
and selected artwork. Painted murals executed by Girls, Inc. and the Bowling
Green Athletic Club grace the walls as do four watercolors by Community
Artist-in-Residence Delaire Rowe.
Expressing Kentucky is a community arts project of the Kentucky Museum
at Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green and is sponsored by a
grant from the Kentucky Arts Council.
Firstar
Contemporary Coverage: Not Your Grandmother's Quilt Anymore! This invitational
exhibit of modern quilts and wall hangings will focus on recent directions
and trends in quiltmaking and will feature contemporary works by Kentucky's
present-day quilters. Today's quiltmakers and fiber artists now explore
the wide range of creative possibilities inherent in machine versus handwork,
the use of hand-dyed and hand-woven fabrics as opposed to manufactured
cloth, and traditional versus nontraditional patterns. Come celebrate
the diversity of contemporary quiltmaking around the state of Kentucky.

New Kentuckians-My New Kentucky Home
My New Kentucky
Home is a paper collage made by children at the Bowling Green International
Festival. Community Artist-in-Residence Lynne Ferguson, with Western Kentucky
University international student Xiaoyun (Jenni) Li helped children express
their ideas of their new Kentucky home using drawing and collage. The
project is part of New Kentuckians, the Kentucky Museum 2000/01 community
and school programming. Sponsored in part by the Kentucky
Arts Council.
