Fun with State and Local Geography


Age:
4th grade and above

Objective:

  • To familiarize students with the geography of Kentucky and Warren County.

Preparation:

Familiarize your students with the geography of Kentucky and Warren County, including its major cities, using maps and illustrations. Emphasize the paths of the Barren and Green rivers and their confluence in northwestern Warren County.

Instructions:

This exercise should be used to review the important geography of Kentucky and Warren County.

  • Have your students pretend that they are newcomers to the area. Assign them a letter to write that describes the type of geography and climate they are experiencing.
  • Have a competition in which students write essays about Kentucky's geography. The winning essay will describe the commonwealth's geography and why Kentucky is a good place to live.
