River Bingo |
Age: 4th
grade and above
Objectives:
- To help students review key names, concepts,
dates, and geographical locations relating to Warren County and
Kentucky.
- To show how Warren County fits into regional
and national history.
Preparation:
Students should be taught some general
history of Bowling Green and Warren County. Teachers can supplement
this history by using the introduction to this section and the
included Bowling Green and Warren County
Timeline.
Instructions:
These exercises should be used as reinforcements
and review.
Fourth Grade:
Using the traditional Bingo format,
students will play "River Bingo." The teacher might
use the following words to fill in the Bingo grid, or create
their own: Joseph Warren, 1796, The
Kalista, steamboat, Barren River, Green River, The Evansville,
excursion, trade, port, merchant, market, Robert Moore, commercial
center, cruise, collision, Civil War, tobacco, New Orleans, honeymoon
cruise, Mammoth Cave, circus, economy, river improvements.
Eighth Grade:
The teacher should omit the "Bingo"
heading from the traditional Bingo grid. Then create clues in
the form of questions that correspond to the answers in the Bingo
grid. Play the game in class, designating yourself as the caller.
Eleventh Grade:
Use the same grid outlined in
the 8th grade lesson plan. Assign each student to write one clue
that for a particular answer in the grid. The teacher should
check the clues prior to playing the game in class.
