Letter written by Elizabeth Cox Underwood

Dream House
Manuscripts Collection MSS 58, I, 1, 9, #15
Item/Collection Note: In her letter of January 13, 1852, to her husband, Elizabeth Cox Underwood describes her discussions with ones involved with the planning and construction of their house building project. She, then, relays her thoughts about the endeavor:

"After you have this fine dwelling put up on the Bend, you ought to expend about $10,000 to make a Paradise of the grounds, & $5000, on a bridge, $2 or 3000 on furniture and then have $5000 a year to keep up the establishment. As it is, I fear it will be all house and nothing else."
