Rice Collection

A devoted literary duo, Alice Hegan Rice (1870-1942) and Cale Young Rice (1872-1943) of Louisville, Kentucky, reveled in their combined married and professional lives. Alice's novel Mrs. Wiggs of the Cabbage Patch, published in 1901, was an instant hit. She had many other published books, but none achieved the height of acclaim as did Mrs. Wiggs...Cale was best known for his poetry, dramas, and short stories.

Most of the collection pertains to their professional lives with about 600 incoming letters from their many literary acquaintances. The collection includes business papers concerning Mrs. Wiggs... as well as manuscript drafts, books reviews, and numerous other items.
