	Warren County was once called the "Strawberry Capitol of the World". This may be slightly exaggerated, but there is no doubt that Warren was once one of the top berry producing counties in Kentucky. The season was short—mid-May through early-June—and everyone from children to senior citizens got involved in harvesting the delectable crop. Farmers formed at least four cooperatives to help chiefly in marketing the berries. Of these the Independent Strawberry Growers Association was the largest. The Blakemore strawberry—featured on this crate label—was not the tastiest of the berries grown in this region, but it was the one that retained its freshness best during transport.
