High School Debating Contest
Kentucky Library Broadside Collection #S1247
Intra- and inter-county debates amongst small colleges and high schools were popular late-nineteenth century events that remained in vogue in Kentucky during the twentieth century. This debate between Franklin and Elkton high schools was held at Elkton’s (Todd County) Christian Church. The related to the sale of bonds to pay off state indebtedness. No date is listed on the broadside, but it likely from the late-1920s or early-1930s. The Elkton Orchestra provided additional entertainment for the audience who paid twenty-five cents admission. Someone noted the names of the judges in the right margin in red ink; the same person noted that "Franklin won" at the bottom of the piece.
