Call for Railroad Subscribers
Kentucky Library Broadside Collection #S1205
Barren County was bypassed by the main north/south line of the Louisville & Nashville Railroad when it was completed in 1859. Citizens correctly knew that connection to the mainline would greatly benefit their community. This broadside is calling for subscribers to a Barren County Railroad that would build a spur line to the L&N. The line was eventually built in 1870 and connected with the L&N at Glasgow Junction (now Park City), approximately ten miles north of Glasgow. In 1951 Joe Creason of the Courier Journal said: "Probably no other town in Kentucky owes so much to so little railroad."
