Donald Zacharias
Biography
Donald Zacharias, born in Salem, Indiana on September 18, 1935,
received a B.A. from Georgetown College (1957) and earned a master's
and a doctorate in speech communication with a minor in American
history at Indiana University. Zacharias joined IU's faculty in
1963, and accepted an associate professorship at the University
of Texas at Austin in 1969. He was promoted twice at Texas, first
to professor, then to an assistant to the president of the University
of Texas. He became Western's sixth president in 1979 and served
until August 31, 1985.
Collection
The collection includes correspondence, materials on faculty and
staff, budgets, academic departments, athletics, and presidential
scrapbooks (4 vols.).
