Kern Alexander
Biography
Kern Alexander, born June 30, 1939, is a native of Marrowbone
in Cumberland County, Kentucky. He received a bachelor's degree
from Centre College (Danville, Kentucky), a master's degree from
Western Kentucky State College, and a Ph.D. from Indiana University.
He became the seventh president of Western Kentucky University
in 1986. An authority on education finance and law, Dr. Alexander
confronted difficult issues during his term, including enrollment,
administrative changes and oversight of student publications.
Alexander left in 1988 to take a professorship at Virginia Polytechnic
Institute, and in 1994 became president of Murray State University.
