LIBRARY ASSISTANT
(PART-TIME)
(Three positions)

Western Kentucky University, Library Public Service is seeking applicants for three Part-Time Library Assistants for the new Visual and Performing Arts Library (VPAL), due to open in the fall. These positions are 20 hours per week, 46 weeks per year. Shifts include working until 12:30 a.m. most nights and includes weekends.

Responsibilities:
• Supervises several student assistants during evenings, nights and weekends.
• Manages operation of the Circulation/Information Desk in the VPAL, including checking out and in books, videos, recordings and reserves, snag cards, recalls, searches and shelving.
• Assists patrons with use of TOPCAT, electronic databases, audio and video materials and books in the VPAL collections. Disciplines to include Art, Music, Theatre and Dance, Photography, Fashion, Costumes, and History of Dress.
• Assists patrons with use of the Lila Greene listening and viewing facilities during evenings and weekends.
• Keeps statistics of evening and weekend usage of the VPAL.
• Reports computer problems to the Library Technology Coordinator.
• Maintains copiers, fax machine, laser printers, and reports problems to the Libraries Facilities Coordinator.
• Staffs the VPAL for 20 hours per week according to evening, night and weekend schedules determined by the VPAL Coordinator.
• Reports to the Coordinator of the Visual and Performing Arts Library.
• Performs other professional duties as assigned by the VPAL Coordinator.

Required Qualifications:
• High School Diploma is required.
• Previous library experience.
• Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Must have strong customer service skills.
• Experience using common office computer applications to include Word and Excel.
• Experience working with library catalogs, online databases and Internet Resources.
• Reliability and excellent attendance.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.
• Supervisory experience.
• Coursework in the Arts, Music, Theatre and Dance, Photography, Fashion and Costume.

Expected Minimum Salary: $10.00 per hour.
