History

The purpose of the Training School was to provide opportunities for student teaching, observation, demonstration, and other participation by prospective teachers in Western's teacher education program.

In accordance with an agreement between the Board of Regents and the Bowling Green city school system, some of the students in the first four grades of the city schools transferred to rooms in the Southern Normal School, and the "Model Training School" was opened on September 17, 1906. When the renamed Western Kentucky State Normal School moved to the Hill in 1911, the Training School was assigned to a wing of the Potter College building. During 1912, curriculum expanded to include eight grades.

In 1920, the Training School severed its connection with the city schools and added one year of high school work. In 1925, the school moved into its own building at the corner of Fifteenth and State Streets (now Science and Technology Hall), and expanded to include grades from kindergarten through senior high school. The first College High commencement was in May 1926.

The school officially became known as College High in 1964 after it was made a department of the newly organized College of Education. With Western's attainment of university status in 1966, it was renamed University High.

University High closed on May 29, 1970. The Training School was moved to a new building and became the Jones-Jaggers Laboratory School, teaching kindergarten through sixth grade. The school became Jones-Jaggers Elementary in 1981, when it was made part of the Warren County school system.
