Senior Class at Western Present Sundial as Gift

Erected in Memory of Professor Lowe G. Johnson

The Senior Class on the Hilltop have placed a stone sundial in the gardens behind Potter Hall as their class gift to the College.

The base of the sundial is inscribed as follows: "Erected in Memory of Lowe G. Johnson by the Senior Class of 1933."

Mr. Lowe G. Johnson, before his death last January, was one of the most popular instructors on the staff of the History department, and sentiment was strongly in favor of the dedication of the gift to Mr. Johnson.

On the bronze face of the dial there is the following raised words, "My Hours are made of Sun and Shade."

The sundial was purchased by the Class from the proceeds of this year's successful Senior Play and from other class entertainments during the past year.

Educator Dies

BOWLING GREEN, Ky., Dec. 30 -- (Spl.) -- Lowe G. Johnson, 40, teacher of history at Western State Teachers college here, died of pneumonia at 6:40 o'clock tonight.

He was born in Hopkinsville and graduated from McLean college, Hopkinsville in 1913. He later attended University of Colorado, graduated at Western Kentucky Teachers college in 1924, recevied his master's degree at George Peabody college, Nashville, in 1931. He was superintendent of city schools at Crofton, Ky., one year, at Pembroke eight years, and for seven years has been connected with the Teachers college here, two years of which he was director of the Teachers College Training school.

He was a member of the State Street Methodist church here. he is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Burt Johnson; his mother, Mrs. J.T. Johnson and the following sisters and brothers: Mrs. J.T. Cannon, Mrs. Richard Boyd, Ermine L. and Herbert Johnson, all of Hopkinsville, and Hugh Johnson of Denver, Colo.

The body will be taken tomorrow afternoon to the home of his sister, Mrs. Cannon at Hopkinsville. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the First Methodist church, Hopkinsville.
