History - The 76,000 square foot building was to be built behind the Hardin Planetarium.

"The facility will house state-of-the-art laboratories for WKU's emerging joint civil, mechanical and electrical engineering programs. The facility will also house the biology department's biotechnology center, biodiversity center and the water quality lab which are all part of Western's Applied Research and Technology Program." [Groundbreaking Program, August 16, 2002]

The building was dedicated on Friday, January 25, 2005.

2007 - The Dr. Dorris J. Hutchinson Microbiology Lab named, $100,000 gift
