Julia Neal Collection of Utopian Materials

Housed in the Kentucky Library are materials related to various communal societies in the United States, particularly the Shakers. The collection includes works by Miss Neal dealing with the Shaker community at South Union, Kentucky.

Genealogy Collection

Books, periodicals, family files and charts, with emphasis on south-central Kentucky families make up part of the genealogy collection of the Kentucky Library. Kentucky census information (1790-1920) in book and/or microfilm format is especially useful to patrons.

Illustrative Materials

The Kentucky Library's illustrative materials consist of more than 15,000 photographs, 10,000 postcards, and hundred of glass lantern slides, engravings, cartoons, and other materials. Although most of the postcards, slides, and printed graphics have national and often international significance, the majority of the photographs concern south central Kentucky during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Numerous indexes containing graphic images filed by subject, often denoting form and origin, may be used in the Kentucky Library. Many illustrative materials may be duplicated, depending upon form and condition of the item.
