University Libraries Remote Storage -- What Is Contained on Each Floor

This area serves as a clearinghouse for the collection housed here. Materials sent for storage are sorted and indexed here. Bound journals and other items that have been borrowed and returned await reshelving here. The first floor also contains periodicals whose titles begin with J and approximately 400 reference books.

2nd Floor

The University Archives houses many of its larger items, e.g. athletic trophies, on this floor. Many of the individual shelves have been removed and rearranged to allow room for objects of differing heights. Some bound and boxed materials are also stored here.

3rd Floor

Over 17,000 volumes of bound periodicals are stored on this floor of the storage area. They include journals covering all subject areas, and some of their runs go back to the nineteenth century.

4th Floor

There are at least as many books housed on this floor of the facility as there are periodicals below. These are primarily additional copies or prior editions of monographs held in the Helms-Cravens Library. There are also a small number of government publications on this floor. Books housed here are labeled as such in TOPCAT 2000.
