2. To Find Journal and Magazine Articles (using indexing/abstracting/full-text
services)
- RILM:
RILM Abstracts of Music Literature (1969-present) is the world's
largest, continuously updated bibliography of music literature providing
broad international coverage including records in over 202 languages
from 3,700 journals. There is no better single source for exploring
the world of music, from Western and Eastern classical to pop, folk,
and jazz.
- The Music Index:
A paper index to the serial literature concerning popular, classical,
and traditional music styles, coverage from 1966 to the present. Location:
Ref.Per.Ind. ML118 .M84.
- Academic
Search Premier
and MasterFILE Premier: These two multi-subject, web-based
services are part of the EBSCOhost system. They feature indexing
and abstracting of many journals and magazines which WKU Libraries receives
in hardcopy, plus a large selection of articles in full-text. Both databases
have a somewhat limited range concerning topics of music, but they do
have some full-text journals that are useful to the undergraduate researcher.
- Google
Scholar: A free Web-based Google service that restricts searches
to the scholarly literature. Now features linking to full-text of articles
held by WKU.
- Art
and Humanities Citation Index (AHSearch):
FirstSearch database available to faculty and graduate students
(and to undergraduate students by special permission). Indexes over
1,300 of the world's leading arts and humanities journals, 1980 to present.
- ArticleFirst:
FirstSearch database available to faculty and graduate students
(and to undergraduate students by special permission). Indexes almost
13,000 journals and magazines from 1990 onward, including some ninety
percent of the ones University Libraries carries in hardcopy.
- DOAJ
(Directory of Open Access Journals): "This service covers
free, full text, quality controlled scientific and scholarly journals"
(across all subject areas, and in multiple languages).
- Electronic
Journal Service: EJS (EBSCOhost): Full-text articles,
tables of content, and abstracts from journals across all subject areas.
Special
resource: TDNet
Electronic Journal Finder [use to access Libraries' electronic
journals, magazines, and newspapers, as well as some indexes and databases
containing full-text articles; includes a comprehensive A-Z listing of
titles]
Special
resource: KenCat
[A searchable catalog of the collections at the Kentucky Library &
Museum. KenCat includes manuscripts, letters, sheet music, photographs,
museum exhibits, images, journals, and books.]
Special resource:
Naxos
Music Library [Use to access our subscription to streaming audio
files of over 85,000 tracks of music produced by the Naxos label, including
a vast array of classical music recordings and some international, new
age, and other material. The liner notes of each recording and special
biographical write-ups on the composers are also searchable, and provide
a good reference source in themselves.]
