2. To Find Journal and Magazine Articles (using indexing/abstracting/full-text services)

The following services are recommended for first-year students and non-majors, as well as advanced students and researchers:

  • Academic Search Premier, MasterFILE Premier, E-Subscribe (ERIC), Professional Development Collection, MAS FullTEXT Ultra: These WWW-based services (part of the EBSCOhost system) feature indexing and abstracting of numerous education-related journals and magazines WKU Libraries receives in print, as well as many full-text articles.
  • Books in Print with Reviews: This database information aboutbooks currently in print and titles about to be published, as well as titles which have been out of print or out of stock indefinitely since 1979. The database also includes more than 600,000 full-text reviews from leading sources.
  • ERIC (Education Resource Information Center): ERIC, the largest and most comprehensive U.S. national bibliographic database devoted to education, provides access to thousands of education-related journal articles and documents dating back to 1966.
  • LibraryLit (FirstSearch) and Library Literature (Helm Ref Per/Ind Z 666 .L69x): Library Literature and its online version, Library Lit, index numerous library science and education-related journals, books, conference proceedings, and book reviews. Approximately ninety percent of these journals are available in the University Libraries. LibraryLit covers 1980 to the present, while Library Literature in print covers 1932-2001. Faculty and graduate students may access Library Lit on FirstSearch with restricted password information that can be obtained from a librarian.
  • KYVL (Kentucky Virtual Library): This collection of databases provides the convenience of searching the FirstSearch and EBSCOhost databases, as well as others such as Novelist, using a wide variety of search options and the same interface. Links to Kentucky library catalogs, government information, and teacher resources are also available.

  • Index Morganagus: A full-text index of library related serials.
  • Internet and Personal Computing Abstracts: Faculty and graduate students may access this on FirstSearch with restricted password information that can be obtained from a librarian.
  • Proquest Computing: This database includes information on computing topics, including software, hardware, e-commerce, Web site development, intranets and extranets, systems design, databases, and technology management. The database also contains thousands of product reviews.
  • Media Review Digest (Helm Ref Per/Ind Z 5784 .M9 M851x): This resource tells you what publication to look in for reviews of films, videos, audio, and CD-ROMs

  • Academic Search Premier, MasterFILE Premier: These WWW-based services (part of the EBSCOhost system) feature indexing and abstracting of many book reviews, as well as some book reviews available in full text.

  • Reader's Guide to Periodical Literature (Helm Ref Per/Ind AI 3 .R48): Contains a separate book review section in the back of each volume.
