2. To Find Journal and Magazine Articles (using indexing/abstracting/full-text services)

The following services are recommended for first-year students and non-majors, as well as advanced students and researchers:

  • Academic Search Premier and MasterFILE Premier (EBSCOhost): All-subject feature indexing and abstracting of many journals and magazines available at WKU, plus a large selection of articles available full text.
  • Books in Print with Reviews: This database information aboutbooks currently in print and titles about to be published, as well as titles which have been out of print or out of stock indefinitely since 1979. The database also includes more than 600,000 full-text reviews from leading sources.
  • Career & Technical Education has full text articles about career, vocational, & technical education.
  • Digital Dissertations Full Text: For access to doctoral dissertations and master's theses.
  • Education Full Text: Indexes articles since 1983, abstracts articles since 1994, and selected full text since 1996.
  • Educational Administration Abstracts (EBSCOhost): Indexes and abstracts articles in educational administration, including educational leadership, educational management, educational research, and other areas of key relevance to the discipline. Older paper issues are located in Reference at LB2805 .E32 (Ref. Per. Ind.).
  • ERIC (EBSCOhost): Covers over 1000 journals plus research reports and other types of literature on all aspects of education.
  • Google Scholar: A free Web-based service that only searches scholarly literature and links to the full text of journals held by WKU.
  • KYVL (Kentucky Virtual Library): This collection of databases provides the convenience of searching the FirstSearch and EBSCOhost databases, as well as others such as Novelist, using a wide variety of search options and the same interface. Links to Kentucky library catalogs, government information, and teacher resources are also available.
  • Library, Information Science, & Technology Abstracts (EBSCOhost)
  • LibraryLit Full Text (Wilson): Library Literature indexes numerous library science and education-related journals, books, conference proceedings, and book reviews (1980-present). Older paper issues (1932-2001) are located in Reference at Helm Ref Per/Ind Z 666 .L69x.
  • Teacher Reference Center (EBSCOhost): Indexes and abstracts over 270 trade journals and magazines for teachers and administrators.

  • Literature Online: Contains full text of over 350,000 works of English and American poetry, drama and prose, along with literature journals and other key criticism and reference resources. Also Indexes scholarly books and articles on modern languages, literatures, folklore, and linguistics. Includes a combined search with the MLA International Bibliography.
  • MLA (Modern Language Association): A WWW-based database available through Literature Online which exhaustively indexes all literature of the field of Literature, Languages, Linguistics, and Folklore.
  • PerAbs: Periodical abstracts from general and academic journals (FirstSearch database accessible to graduate students and faculty, and to undergraduates by special permission).
  • PsycINFO (EBSCOhost): Provides indexing and abstracts for over one million articles in 1,500 journals, plus dissertations, books and book chapters, from 1887 to the present.
  • WilsonSelectPlus: Full-text articles in science, humanities, education and business (FirstSearch database accessible to graduate students and faculty, and to undergraduates by special permission).

The following services are recommended for finding book reviews:
