These
three all-subject EBSCOhost-based services feature
indexing and abstracting of many journals and magazines
WKU Libraries receives in hardcopy, plus a large selection
of articles in full-text. See Newspaper Source below

- ArticleFirst:
This all-subject FirstSearch-based database indexes
almost 13000 journals and magazines from 1990 onward, including
some ninety percent of the ones University Libraries carries
in hardcopy.
- FACTS.com:
Delivers the complete full-text of the authoritative Facts
On File News Digest since January 1980, updated every
week.
- Newspaper
Source (EBSCOhost): (EBSCOhost)
Provides full text for 128 regional U.S. newspapers, fifteen
international newspapers, six newswires, and nine newspaper
columns, The Christian Science Monitor and The
Los Angeles Times, for a total of 160 full text newspapers
and other sources.
- Lexis-Nexis
- Academic Universe: full-text broadcast transcripts
and articles from local, national, and international newspapers.
- NewsBank:
full-text of newspapers, including local, national, and
international titles.
- Alt-Press
Watch: a 100% full text database of the newspapers,
magazines and journals of the alternative and independent
press.

Maintained by the Communication Institute for Online Scholarship,
this database contains abstracts of articles published in
the primary professional literature of the communication(s)
field.
- Journalism
& Mass Communications Abstracts: Formerly Journalism
Abstracts, includes abstracts of dissertations and theses
accepted for graduate degrees. Print version also available
(see Monographic Works section below).
- PerAbs:
Periodical abstracts from general and academic journals
(FirstSearch database accessible to graduate students
and faculty, and to undergraduates by special permission)
- WilsonSelectPlus:
Full-text articles in science, humanities, education and
business (FirstSearch database accessible to graduate
students and faculty, and to undergraduates by special permission)
- Project
Muse: Provides online, worldwide, institutional
subscription access to the full text of over 100 scholarly
journals in the arts and humanities, social sciences and
mathematics.
- JSTOR:
Provides the full text/full image web access of the complete
archival collections of a large number of journals, up to
the most recent three to five years.
- Times
Digital Archive: Online tool researchers can search
through the complete digital edition of The Times
(London), to retrieve full facsimile images of articles
from 1785-1985.
- The
(Historical) New York Times:
Another complete digital rendering with full facsimile images
of articles for the whole of the paper's existence (beginning
in 1851), excepting the most recent few years.
- Vanderbilt
Television News Archive: The world's most extensive
and complete archive of television news. The collection
holds more than 30,000 individual network evening news broadcasts
from the major U.S. national broadcast networks: ABC, CBS,
NBC, and CNN, and more than 9,000 hours of special news-related
programming including ABC's Nightline since 1989.

Electronic Journal Finder [use to access Libraries'
electronic journals, magazines, and newspapers, as well as

- Newpaper Indexes
(eg., Wall Street Journal, LA Times, Chicago
Tribune and others) can be found in the Reference Periodical
Index section (AI121).
- Journalism
&Mass Communication Abstracts (PN4725 .J67x Ref. Per.
Indexes) An annual listing of master's theses and doctoral
dissertations in journalism and mass communication.
- Index to
Journals in Communication Studies Through 1990. (2 v.)
Volume 1 lists the tables of contents for 19 journals used
in communications studies from the first volume issued through
the final issue for 1990. Volume 2 carries a series of indexes:
contributors, subjects, and keywords.
- A Dictionary
of Communication and Media Studies (P87.5 W38 1997):
This 4th edition included new terms like "guard
dog metaphor," "cyberspace," and "cultural
memory."
- International
Encyclopedia of Communications (P87.5 .I5 1989): This
four-volume set is somewhat dated, but contains useful information.
- International
Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences (H40. A2 I5 Main
Ref): An older set of almost 20 volumes that can fill in
the historical gaps (from 1968).
- Webster’s
New World Dictionary of Media and Communications (P87.5
W45 1996): Award-winning coverage of public relations, journalism,
advertising, film, and television.
- Who’s
Who in the Media and Communications (P88.8 W567) Brief
biographical entries on people in telecommunications, journalism,
publishing, advertising, marketing, computers, and broadcasting.
- Women in
Communication: A Biographical Sourcebook (P94.5 W65
W667 1996 Main Ref): A compilation of essays about the lives
and accomplishments of women in communications.
- Other handbooks,
dictionaries, encyclopedias, directories, etc.: available
in Helm Reference, mainly in the P87-94, PN4726-PN4888 range
of the collection.
