2. To Find Journal and Magazine Articles (using indexing/abstracting/full-text services)

  • TD Net Electronic Journal Finder- Accesses electronic journals, magazines, and newspapers at WKU and their TOC which are updated weekly. Individualized current awareness alerts for journal titles and keywords.
  • TOPCAT-Online catalog for print and microform books, journals at WKU.

The following services are recommended for courses for first-year students and non-majors:

  • ABI/INFORM Global (ProQuest)- Index with abstracts of over 550,000 articles in nearly 1500 global business periodicals; 700 full text titles with coverage back to 1991/92 and indexing back to 1971.
  • Business Source Premier (EBSCOhost) KYVL- Index with full text for more than 2300 global business journals, including full text for more than 1100 peer-reviewed titles.
  • ProQuest Computing KYVL- Information on computer software, hardware, e-commerce, Web site development, systems design, technology including product reviews.
  • Wall Street Journal (Full-text in ABI/INFORM)- Wall Street journal articles, Eastern edition, 1984-Current. Subject/date/other indexing.

The following services are recommended for use by advanced students and researchers:

  • CHECKPOINT- Tax accounting news and research materials from RIA Group for accounting industry. Requires ID and password for access.
  • Disclosure Online Database - (See LexisNexis Academic Business Company Profiles).-Financial/management information from SEC reports for over 10,000 publicly owned companies; selection of companies by multiple features.
  • EDGAR Database of Corporate Information- Company annual reports on Form 10K or 10-KSB and other forms filed with the Securities and Exchange commission, since 1-1994.
  • Standard & Poor’s Research Insight CD-ROM- Index to financial data, including 20 years of annual data, extracted from over 11,300 U.S. and Canadian public companies; over 80 predefined report formats. Minor installation on individual computers necessary
  • Valueline.com- Weekly stock and industry analysis for 1,700 companies in about 96 industries. Other financial information.
  • Worldscope (See LexisNexis Academic Business Company Profiles)- Financial profiles of over 28,000 active and inactive companies in 54 countries; selection of companies by multiple features.

  • Standard & Poor’s Stock Reports (NYSE, ASE, NASDAQ combined)- Comprehensive two-page reports on 3000 companies traded on NYSE, ASE, and NASDAQ. Helm Library Reference Room Business Alcove Ref HG4905.S45x
  • Mergent (Annual) Bond Record- Bond issues-corporates, convertibles, governments, and municipals-call price, interest dates, yield to maturity, and Moody’s ratings. Helm Library Reference Room Business Alcove Ref HG4509.M8x
  • Hoover’s Handbook of American Business- Historical/financial profiles of 750 of the largest U.S. companies, arranged alphabetically, by industry, headquarters, executives.
