Early American Newspapers

The library has two series of Early American Newspapers. We also have access to several Early Newspapers on the Web, as well as full page images of the New York Times (1851-2003) and the Times of London (1785-1985). To access the New York Times or the Times of London, go to the WKU Libraries' Web-accessible Databases page.

  • The Early American Newspapers (Readex) consist of 55 boxes (or reels) containing 35 millimeter reel-to-reel microfilm. These boxes are stored in cabinet 5, drawer 5, of the microform collection, housed on Helm 2nd floor.The microform area has 4 microform reader-printers that can accomodate both reel-to-reel microfilm and 4" x 6" microfiche, as well as a scanner that can create jpg and tiff images.
  • Early American Newspapers on Microcard from the American Antiquarian Society) (Readex Microprint Corporation) These are located in the 13 blue boxes on the wooden shelves next to the newspaper rack on Helm 2nd floor.

Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers
Contains more than 226,000 pages of public-domain newspapers from California, Florida, Kentucky, New York, Utah, Virginia and the District of Columbia published between 1900 and 1910.
