Museum Features African American Folk Art

During January and February the traveling exhibit, African American Folk Art in Kentucky, provided visitors a first-ever look at the work of self-taught African-American artists in Kentucky, as seen through the work of ten artists with diverse backgrounds. Developed and produced by the Kentucky Folk Art Center in Morehead, the exhibit was sponsored by Omni Customs Meats, Inc. and Famous-Barr, a division of the May Department Stores Company.

On Monday, January 15, several hundred visitors attended the opening reception for the exhibit, one of many events throughout the Bowling Green area that celebrated the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  In addition to viewing the exhibit and touring the rest of the museum, the museum invited younger visitors to participate in a children’s art activity led by artist Joan Dance, whose work was included in the exhibit.
