WST Minutes
Date: October
31, 2000
Location: Helm

Members
Present: Bryan
Carson, Rose Davis, Deana Groves, Rosemary Meszaros, Donna
Parker, Haiwang Yuan
- Haiwang
Yuan opened the meeting with a review of the changes made to
TIP as suggested in last WST meeting. Several categories in
the left vertical column were renamed and one tab at the top
was split making 5 tabs total. Two new categories will be added:
Freebies and White and Yellow Pages. WST members are
- to share
ideas and collect links for these categories. Suggestions for
the Freebies category included Dial Pad, Hot Mail, American
Greeting Card, and Blue Mountain.
- WST
discussed the online version of the Faculty Activities Report
which was
fraught with problems, such as no spell checking, lack of control
in formatting, and no way to obtain a copy prior or after sent.
Also, if the receiver does not have their computer configured
properly some of the text may be cut off. If we had control
of a server one way to help with this problem would be CGI
Script which would send the submitter a receipt of whatever
was typed. It was decided prior to this meeting that University
Libraries would go low tech. Hawing reviewed several documents
that faculty could download, fill out and either send as an
attachment to e-mail or print out. Because of the incompatibility
of software the WST decided to add a RTF version so the department
heads could read.
- Haiwang
introduced the idea of expanding the Japan/Bowling Green Sister
City site to include both the Japanese and English versions
of the signed agreement, maps of the areas, etc. Deana
is going to sketch a design for the site.
- WST
reviewed items pertinent to the University Libraries and Museum
Web
site as included in the "Recruitment and Retention Report" from
a DPLS task force submitted to Dean Binder for approval. The
task force is composed of Bryan Carson, Ruth Kinnersley, Charles
Smith, Peggy Wright and Haiwang Yuan. As always, the WST looks
at ways to improve the site. Discussions on simplification
of the UL Homepage will continue. Area librarians will be asked
to review content of their pages for simplification as well.
WST will continue to accept and review constructive suggestions
for improvement of the site and will continue their efforts
to solicit student input. WST also discussed ADA compatibility
issues and will hear more from Deana who has taken a class
in the subject.
- Team discussed
ways to update the Index and thought that the Index needed
to be looked at as a whole. Suggestion was put forth that a
task force be created to update and maintain the Index. All
members agreed.
For
WST,

Parker and Haiwang Yuan
