Members
Present: Bryan
Carson, Deana Groves, Jonathan Jeffrey, Rosemary Meszaros,
Donna Parker and Sandy Staebell, Haiwang Yuan
- Haiwang
demonstrated the revised WKU home page, which features "InfoGateway" and "Making
a Gift" links.
- Haiwang
briefly reviewed the team progress in migrating and revising
the departmental pages:
- A total
of 834 pages have been revised using templates with consistent
and innovative navigation mechanism.
- Directories
in the server have been rearranged to facilitate future web
development. Related files now reside in the same directories.
Haiwang thanks
the WST members for their collaborative and intelligent work.
Thanks also go to the former WSWG members who helped lay the
groundwork.
- While acknowledging
the efficiency of such web tools as Dreamweaver and Atomz.com
used to redesign and debug the web pages, WST members were
concerned with link checking. They discussed ways of catching
dead links to outside web resources. Haiwang will investigate
available free or low-cost services or software that meet this
technical need.
- The rest
of the meeting was devoted to a discussion on the construction
of the InfoGateway. The team worked out a list of categories
and brainstormed their content. It decided that the links in
the categories should be carefully selected and the page published
on the web when each category gets up to five links. Another
goal was to have all the categories appear on one screen. The
team also decided that the categories should be listed alphabetically.
- Suggested
categories and examples of contents are:
Antiques,
Collectibles & Printed Materials [contents: Appraisal,
Conservation, Preservation]
Art & Culture
Autos [contents: Corvette, CarTalk]
Education & Teaching Resources
Entertainment & Sports
Facts & Resources

Kids, Teens & Parents [contents: Kidsafe sites, homework help,

Several methods
were discussed about team collaboration in the construction
of the InfoGateway page. It was decided that Haiwang would
devise a draft page, the team would submit URLs to him for
adding to the page. The team would monitor the page and critique
it.
- Next two
meetings: February 8 and March 21, at 1:30-3 p.m., Helm 5.
For the Team,
Rosemary
Meszaros & Haiwang
Yuan
