KIDS NOW Early Childhood Development Scholarship Steps
- Apply for admission to the university by submitting the attached WKU
admission application. Please indicate pursuit of the Interdisciplinary
Early Childhood Education degree by writing the code 526P on #14 of the WKU
admission application. You will receive an enrollment verification letter
from WKU when you are officially enrolled.
- Meet with an IECE advisor to schedule classes and obtain a program of
study. Dr. Yorde is the advisor for students pursuing an Associates
Degree. Janet Fugate is the advisor for students pursuing a Bachelors
Degree. Dr. Yordes phone number is 745-2525, and Janet Fugates
phone number is 745- 4613. You may have to take the ACT or a placement test
to register for classes.
- Complete the attached Kids Now Scholarship Application and Professional
Growth Plan. The deadline for submitting the scholarship application and
growth plan for the summer term is April 15, 2001.
Instructions:

- Complete Section A (p.3)
- Ask your employer to complete Section B (p. 4)
- Make a copy of the completed application for your records
- Determine the individual authorized to disburse funds (write checks) at
your center for question #5
- Your admission profile from WKU should indicate that you are enrolled
in the Early Childhood Program (question #8)
- Examples of goals for question 14 might be to complete 3 classes with
a "C" or above, to obtain an Associates with a 3.0 GPA, or to
take two classes a semester, etc.
- Your advisor will provide you with a program of study for #13
- Remember your signature (scholar) on p. 3
- Make a copy of the completed professional growth plan for your records
- Mail the original application and professional growth plan to:

- You will receive a notice of consideration from the CCR&R verifying
submission of your application. A textbook reimbursement form, related
educational expense reimbursement form, and a milestone achievement award
request form, if applicable, will also be included.
- You will receive an award notice from the KHEAA confirming award of the
scholarship. You may get a bill from the university before confirmation
of award.
- Purchase the required textbooks.
- Submit textbook reimbursement form, your receipt for required textbooks,
and a copy of the $50 reimbursement check or money order from your employer.
- After completing each semester, submit a copy of your grades and the
related educational expense form to apply for the additional $100 related
expense reimbursement. You may have to request that a copy of your grades
be mailed to you from the registrars office at WKU; or you can obtain
a copy of your grades online from Topline-see WKU bulletin or website.
- Submit a copy of your certificate or degree and the milestone achievement
award request form to your employer to complete. Your employer should
issue you a certified check of $30 for an Associates or $50 for a Bachelors.
- After completing your degree, submit a copy of your certificate or degree,
the milestone achievement award request form, and a copy of the certified
check from your employer to apply for an additional $270 from state funds.

Attached is the KIDS NOW Scholarship Application. The first step new scholars
should make is to apply for admission at the university by submitting the WKU

I have also attached the KIDS NOW CDA Mini-Grant application. CDA Candidates
who have completed the CDA process, and who are ready to apply for the CDA Direct
Assessment Verification visit, should submit the CDA Mini-Grant Application
to me three months prior to the direct assessment deadline. Please see chart
below.
