Financial Aid Process for Winter Term
Aid Possibilities:
- Pell Grant for those with eligible EFC & less than full time Fall &/or Spring enrollment (i.e., have not used up full academic year award eligibility)
- Stafford Loan for those who have not used up full academic year award eligibility
- Alternative loans for those with 2 hrs in Winter Term
- Parents of dependent students are eligible to apply for a Parent Plus Loan. If interested, please call 1-877-353-8070 or go to www.wku.edu/finaid/plus.htm
Application Process:
Pell Grant and Stafford Loan :
- To ensure timely receipt of Pell Grant and Stafford Loan funds, students seeking Pell Grant and Stafford Loan must have a processed & valid FAFSA & Winter Term Financial Aid Application on file prior to December 1st so that aid will memo account prior to the due date. The FAFSA may be filed online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. The Winter Term Financial Aid Application may be filed online at www.wku.edu/finaid/winterapp.htm.
- Financial aid budgets will be adjusted to reflect tuition & book costs for eligible students for Winter Term only per Federal Regulations.
- Disbursement for Pell Grant and Stafford Loan for Winter Term will occur the first day of Winter Term classes (Federal requirement of 10 days prior to the semester would fall during a time when the University is not open).
Alternative Loan:
- To ensure timely receipt of alternative loan funds, students seeking a loan should have applied with a preferred lender by November 1st. This will allow time for the loan to be approved, disbursed to the student, or payment forwarded to the University by the proposed due date. Return of Funds for Withdrawals/Drops:
- Pell Grant and Stafford Loan return of funds will be processed as follows:
- Students that withdraw/drop prior to January 12th, will prorate Pell Grant and Stafford Loan return
- Students that withdraw/drop after January 12th, no return of Pell Grant or Stafford Loan
- No return of funds for Alternative Loans
Vocational Rehabilitation/Scholarships/Tuition Waivers:
Vocational Rehabilitation will not be available for Winter Term students (most do not certify for 3 hrs & funds are already allocated completely due to restricted budgets for Fall/Spring)
- University Scholarships will not be available for Winter Term students.
- Veteran/War Orphan Tuition Waivers are available for Winter Term students.
Student Employment
- Students not enrolled in Winter Term & enrolling in the Spring term will be allowed to work up to 40 hours per week during the interim period (December 18th – January 21st).
- Students enrolled in Winter Term & enrolling in the Spring term will be allowed to work up to 40 hours per week between December 18th & January 1st. As of January 2nd, they will be allowed to work only 20 hours per week.
- Students enrolled in Winter Term & not enrolling in the Spring term will not be allowed to work during the interim period or the Winter Term period.
