CHANGES
You MUST notify the VA Coordinator if you:
- change your major
- change your course load
- withdraw from classes
- change your address
- have depleted your VA educational benefits
Drop/Add Courses:
Reduction/increase in your enrollment must be reported to the VA Office @ WKU on the Change in Status form which can be obtained at : www.wku.edu/finaid/vaforms.htm.
Withdrawals:
VA will not pay benefits to an individual for a course from which the individual withdraws or receives a nonpunitive grade which is not used in computing the requirements for graduation (38 USC 3680). All withdrawals must be reported to the VA Office @ WKU on the Change in Status form which can be obtained at www.wku.edu/finaid/vaforms.htm
WORK STUDY PROGRAM
Individuals eligible for participation in this program are paid an hourly wage for work completed in authorized VA-related activies.
The applicant must:
- receive VA educational benefits
- attend school and be certified to VA as 3/4 time or more the semester(s) you are working
- complete VA Form 20-8691, Application for Work-Study Allowance
- be selected for the program by one of the authorized sites

CHAPTERS:
Chapter 30 - Montgomery GI Bill - Active Duty (MGIB)
The MGIB program provides up to 36 months of education benefits. This benefit may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training and correspondence courses. Generally, benefits are payable for 10 years following your release from active duty.
Chapter 35 - Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance Program (DEA)
DEA provides education and training opportunities to eligible dependents of veterans who are permanently and totally disabled due to a service-related condition, or who died while on active duty or as a result of a service related condition. The program offers up to 45 months of education benefits. These benefits may be used for degree and certificate programs, apprenticeship, and on-the-job training. If you are a spouse, you may take a correspondence course.
Chapter 1606-Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR)
The MGIB-SR program may be available to you if you are a member of the Selected Reserve. The Selected Reserve includes the Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve and Coast Guard Reserve, and the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard. This benefit may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training and correspondence courses.
Chapter 1607-Montgomery GI Bill - Selected Reserve (MGIB-SR)
The MGIB-SR program may be available to you if you are a member of the Selected Reserve and Individual Ready Reserve and have spent at least 90 consecutive days under a contingency operation. The reserve components consist of Army Reserve, Navy Reserve, Air Force Reserve, Marine Corps Reserve and Coast Guard Reserve, and the Army National Guard and the Air National Guard, Army IRR, Air Force IRR, Navy IRR and Marine Corps IRR. This benefit may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training and correspondence courses.
Veterans Educational Assistance Program (VEAP)
VEAP is available if you first entered active duty between January 1, 1977 and June 30, 1985 and you elected to make contributions from your military pay to participate in this education benefit program. Your contributions are matched on a $2 for $1 basis by the Government. This benefit may be used for degree and certificate programs, flight training, apprenticeship/on-the-job training and correspondence courses.
Chapter 31-Vocational Rehabilitation
The Vocational Rehabilitation program is for service-disabled veterans who require further education to attain suitable, stable employment. This program may provide vocational and other training services and assistance including tutorial assistance, tuition, books, fees, supplies, handling charges, licensing fees and equipment and other training materials necessary.

REPEATING A COURSE
If a veteran fails a required course, he/she may repeat that course with pay. However, he/she cannot repeat a course in which a "passing grade" is received. Unless specified otherwise by the university, a "passing grade" is a D or higher.
ACADEMIC PROGRESS
Veterans must attend classes regularly and continue to show satisfactory progress. Benefit payments will not be made for courses in which you withdraw unless mitigating circumstances exist.
