Satisfactory Academic Progress

Be admitted in good standing, if a transfer or readmission student.
Be degree seeking and taking courses required for completion of a degree.
Maintain a grade point average for continuous enrollment in accordance with the current WKU Catalog.
Maintain an overall completion, hours earned rate of 85%. The completion rate is calculated by dividing the total number of credit hours earned by the total number of credit hours attempted. Total hours earned/attempted is defined as hours completed at WKU, plus any transfer hours as recorded by the Registrar's Office.
Complete their degree/program of study with the maximum credits of eligibility. This is defined as 96 credit hours attempted for an associate degree or 192 credit hours attempted for a bachelor's degree. The credit hours used to calculate include all hours attempted at WKU, plus any transfer hours as recorded by the Registrar's Office.

Maintain an overall completion, hours earned rate of 85%. The completion rate is calculated by dividing the total number of credit hours earned by the total number of credit hours attempted. Total hours earned/attempted is defined as hours completed at WKU, plus any transfer hours as recorded by the Registrar's Office.
Complete their degree/program of study within the maximum credit hours of eligibility. Maximum credit hours of eligibility are calculated by multiplying the minimum number of hours required for the student's degree/program of study by 150%. The credit hours used to calculate include all hours attempted at WKU, plus any transfer hours as recorded by the Registrar's Office.

All students who fail to maintain the relevant GPA (2.0 for undergraduate, 3.0 for graduate) and/or all students who do not meet the required completion/hours earned rate, are placed on SAP Probation. These students will be notified in writing by the Department of Student Financial Assistance and must sign and return their notification in order to be eligible for financial aid. Their progress will be checked at the end of each semester. Students failing to achieve a minimum 2.0 GPA (3.0 for graduate students) and/or students failing to earn 100% of the credit hours for which they were awarded financial aid, will fall into SAP Cancellation Status and will no longer be eligible to receive financial aid.

Students are considered not eligible or no longer eligible for financial aid if any of the following occurs:

Failure to achieve the required 2.0 GPA (3.0 for graduate students) during any semester following notification of probation.
Failure to earn 100% of the credit hours for which they were awarded financial aid during any semester following notification of probation.
Withdraw or drop below halftime in a semester while receiving financial aid.
Exceed the maximum number of credit hours attempted allowed for their program of study.
Admitted to the University or Community College on probation.

Students who withdraw or drop below half time in a semester while receiving financial aid, students who are admitted to the University or Community College on probation, or students who exceed the maximum number of credit hours attempted allowed for their program of study may appeal cancellation of eligibility. Students must submit a Financial Aid Appeal Form, along with appropriate documentation within 20 working days of notification of SAP Cancellation, to the Department of Student Financial Assistance. The Satisfactory Academic Progress Appeals Committee will review the appeal, and the student will normally receive a response within 10 working days. Decisions of the SAP Appeals Committee are final.

NOTE: Students who were previously on SAP Probation and received financial aid but did not meet requirements will not be eligible to appeal.

Students can/may have their eligibility to receive financial aid reinstated when one of the following conditions have been met:

The student has submitted a Financial Aid Appeal Form and it has been approved, as outlined above.

and/or

The student has, at their own expense, earned the deficient number of credit hours, and/or raised both his/her cumulative and WKU GPA to meet required guidelines. Note: It is the student's responsibility to notify the Department of Student Financial Assistance when this has been accomplished.

and/or

The student has not attended any college, university, trade or vocational school for a period of two calendar years. Note: Students in this category will be eligible for financial assistance in accordance with the procedures of SAP PROBATION.
