Once you have registered for classes, you will have a WKU email address automatically generated. The University uses the WKU email address for all university email communication. You are strongly advised to access your WKU email account routinely to stay informed of important University business such as information regarding your bill, financial aid or correspondence from faculty.

Your WKU email account password is initially set to a random number. For additional information including how to change your WKU email password or how to forward your WKU mail address, go to the Information Technology help page.

To use your email account go to www.wku.edu/accounts/ and from the left-hand side click on Webmail. Enter your username and password. If you do not know your username click on first time student users and then what’s is my account username and password. You must know your WKU ID# and TopNet PIN.

Log into TopNet?

From the Western home page, www.wku.edu you can access TopNet either from the menu or from Current Students. Select TopNet Login and enter your User ID and PIN. Your User ID is your WKU ID# and your PIN is originally set to the last six digits of your SS#. Once you log into TopNet the first time you will be asked to change your PIN. (If you have trouble with this step, please contact the Office of the Registrar at 270-745-3351).

After reviewing the message board continue login and select Student Services. From here you can do several things such as register for classes, reserve textbooks, pay tuition and fees, etc.

Check my financial aid?

After you have logged into TopNet and reached Student Services choose Financial Aid.

To view your account status – has your FAFSA information been received, are there are other requirements for financial aid, etc. select Eligibility and Student Requirements.

To view your financial aid award please select Award and Account Summary by Term. Items listed in the Charge column are things you are being billed for such as tuition, books, housing and meal plans. Items in the Payment column reflect either payments (cash, check, credit card) or applied financial aid (financial aid may be listed as anticipated). Any amount listed in the Balance Column is the amount still due unless you see a negative (-) balance. A negative balance indicates an amount to be refunded to you in the form of a residual check.

Accept my financial aid awards?

From the Western home page, www.wku.edu you can access TopNet either from the Quick Links menu or from Current Students. Select TopNet Login and enter your User ID and PIN. Your User ID is your WKU ID# and your PIN is originally set to the last six digits of your SS#. Once you log into TopNet the first time you will be asked to change your PIN. (If you have trouble with this step, please contact the Office of the Registrar at 270-745-3351).

After reviewing the bulletin board, continue login and select Student Services. Choose Financial Aid, Award and Accept Award Offer.

After choosing the appropriate aid year you will be able to view your awards and accept* or decline them.

*Some awards, i.e., upperclassmen scholarships, including KEES, and grants will be automatically accepted by the Financial Aid Office depending on the programs’ specific requirements and after all audits have been completed. There is nothing the student needs to do to accept these awards. (Beginning freshmen scholarships must be accepted).

Also, students cannot accept the Parent Plus Loan. Please visit our web site, www.wku.edu/finaid/plus.htmfor more information and a link to apply for the Parent Plus Loan. Parents may also call 1-877-353-8070 if they would like to apply for this loan by phone. The Plus Loan will be changed to an accepted status if the parent applies for and is approved for this loan.
