Our Textbook Requests Process (formerly
called Textbook Adoptions)
We have developed a simple online form. All
book data and email information sent via our online form will not
be 'mined' or stored in any database other than our bookstore text
system and email files. If you have a suggestion to make the online
form better, let us know! It is our web page and we can change
it!
What We Need:
This is the information that we need for successful textbook requests.
A. Course Information:
1. Course ID (Department, Course & Section Number -- i.e. Math
100--001)
2. Instructor's name, telephone number, and email address (Use
STAFF' if unassigned)
3. Anticipated enrollment (Please rely on previous experience for
this number)
B. Book Information
1. ISBN stands for International Standard Book Number, a 10 digit
number unique to a title. (Note: some materials do not have ISBN's)
THE ISBN IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PIECE OF INFORMATION WE RECEIVE!
2. TITLE
3. AUTHOR
4. ED: EDITION (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) (Please let us know if any
current edition is suitable.) Time permitting, we will inform you
of newer editions pending. We will require your verbal, handwritten,
or emailed verification before ordering or buying back texts which
are old editions.
5. BD: Binding (hardback, paperback, spiral, CD, etc.)
6. YR: Year of Copyright, i.e. 02 (2002)
C. Concerning
book information
You ***MUST*** indicate one of the following:
1. REQUIRED: Required means a student won't have a very good chance
of getting through the course without this textbook. If you are
planning to inform students that tests are taken from a study guide,
that study guide will probably be in high demand and should have
REQUIRED status.
2. RECOMMENDED: A recommended title is one that is helpful to a
student's understanding of course material, but not vital to her/his
success in that course.
IMPORTANT!
Many instructors have made excellent efforts at providing special
notes about their courses/books. If you have any information
as to the probable demand for your course materials (needed early,
specific editions or bindings, questions, etc.) please let us
know!
Many instructors are now using 'disposable'
texts. A disposable text is one that has a 'one time use' feature.
In the past they were usually just laboratory manuals or books
with removable worksheets. Many books use items such as the POWER
WEB or INFOTRAC, and many of you incorporate these features into
your curriculum. If that is the case with your text needs, we need
to know this. If you neglect to tell us this, your students may
purchase useless materials next semester. We typically do not buy
back 'disposable' texts.
What happens next?
Filling out this online form sends an email to the Book Department.
A confirmation page, "Text Request Successfully Sent" should
appear in your browser if the form was successfully sent. From
that generated email, we then enter the information into our inventory
system (by hand), correcting problems where we find them. The 'Request
Sent' confirmation page does not mean that your information has
been entered, it just means that an email was generated and sent.
Therefore, it is VERY important that you confirm our data entry
process by checking our online store in about two weeks from the
time of your submission. Act as if you were a customer looking
for a book: choose term, department, course, then section. If the
correct authors and titles are listed, then the process is complete.
Please take the time to perform this step, it is vitally important.
