TRANSFER CREDIT FOR ENGLISH 102

Students who transfer to WKU with no English or Only English 101, or the equivalent must complete English 300 as their second composition requirement UNLESS:

  1. The student takes 102 (or equivalent) as part of an associates degree earned elsewhere; or
  2. The student is part-time and is dividing their work between Western and another school and has taken 102 (or equivalent) before completing more than 18 hours at WKU; or
  3. The student filed a degree program prior to Fall 1992 that included 102 as an approved substitution for 300; or
  4. The student has gained advanced placement at UK with an English ACT of 29 or higher and passed 102 or 105 as their second composition course.

Any questions by students should be referred to the Department of English at (270) 745-3043.

P
rocedure:
If the student successfully completes ENG 102 (or equivalent) prior to enrolling at WKU, we will record as ENG A1-L. That English course counts as credit toward General Education Category A1 and counts as a lower division course. When a student has successfully completed both ENG 100 and ENG A1-L, the student has fullfilled the English Requirements in Category A.

If ENG 102 (or equivalent) is taken after the student enrolls at Western Kentucky University, the course will be recorded as ENG EL-L (English Elective Lower Division). The student will still need to take ENG 300 to fulfill the English Requirements in Category A.

Please contact Department of English at (270) 745-3043 if you have questions regarding these policies and procedures.
