INTERNATIONAL STUDENT REQUIREMENTS

Western Kentucky University is committed to promoting international understanding through intercultural exchange. The admission of qualified international students from countries throughout the world allows Western to offer a uniquely diverse student body. The University’s academic requirements for admission as described in "Admission Requirements" must be met. All students must also provide a World Education Service evaluation of academic credentials. Any student receiving transfer credit must provide a course-by-course evaluation. Any student entering WKU as a beginning freshman with no possibility of transfer credit may provide a document-by-document evaluation. An application may be obtained via the internet at www.wes.org. An application may be received by mail by writing: World Education Services Inc., P.O. Box 745, Old Chelsea Station, New York, New York 10113-0745. All necessary documents including academic records, financial certificate and proof of English language proficiency must be received before permission to enroll and the I-20 Form can be issued.

Applicants are required to provide official or certified copies of academic records. Records in any language other than English must be accompanied by a certified English translation. Financial ability must be demonstrated by completion of a financial certificate including signatures of the sponsor and a bank official. Persons receiving a scholarship may demonstrate financial ability by sending an original or certified copy of the award letter, including the amount of the scholarship or the expenses it covers. The University may require an advance deposit of funds to cover one year’s tuition and living expenses of all non-immigrant international students from a particular country before issuance of the Form I-20 when Western’s Chief Financial Officer has determined that such a provision is in the best interest of the University. All applicants from non-English speaking countries are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), offered by the Educational Testing Service. It is the applicant’s responsibility to obtain the necessary information and application forms, and to arrange to take the test by a date that assures the results are reported to the University by the required deadlines. A score of 525 on the TOEFL, or a 197 computer based TOEFL, is required for admission.

Upon receipt of your application and official transcripts, you will receive a General Education Transfer Report by mail approximately 3 weeks after we receive all official documentation. You may view your online General Education Transfer Report here.

Applications received from international students will be reviewed on a competitive basis. Fulfillment of the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to the University. An effort will be made to admit students from a variety of countries. Undergraduate international students may print the following four required forms: checklist, application, questionnaire, and financial certificate. Click here for information on TIP and cost.
