Math Placement Exam

The Online Math Placement Exam (MPE) is required for all incoming students.  The trigonometry placement exam is also required if you plan to take calculus at the college level.  All students planning to major in Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering must take both exams.  Online exams must be completed by 11:59 p.m. CST at least four business days before your scheduled orientation date.  There is a 45-minute time limit that begins when you start the exam.  The exam score you receive allows you to register for a math class for the following semester only.

Before taking the Math Placement Exam, you must have the following:

• High Speed Internet
• WKU ID# (begins with “800”)
• Enough time to read the instructions and take the exam in 45 minutes or less

Log in to TopNet using your WKU ID # (which begins with 800) and your PIN
If you have never logged in before, use the last six digits of your Social Security Number. If you do not have a Social Security Number, use the last six digits of your WKU ID#.

Chemistry Placement Exam
The Chemistry Placement Exam is taken in person during orientation for students whose major require this exam. Click here for a list of majors that must take the Chemistry Placement Exam. Commonwealth School students are not required to take this exam.

Foreign Language Placement Exam
This exam is available online for students who require it. This exam must be taken 7-10 days before the scheduled orientation date. Click here to go to the Foreign Language website. Commonwealth School students are not required to take this exam.
