This exam is taken in-person during orientation for students electing to pursue the following program areas are required to take the Chemistry Placement Exam on their Academic Transitions Program date: Agriculture, Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Construction Management, Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical), Geology, Industrial Science, Medical Technology, Physics, Pre-Chiropractic, Pre-Dentistry, Pre-Engineering, Pre-Forestry, Pre-Medicine, Pre-Optometry, Pre-Pharmacy, Pre-Physical Therapy, Pre-Podiatric Medicine, Pre-Veterinary, Recombinant Genetics, Undeclared but interested in Science.
Students who need to take Chemistry 120 are highly encouraged to take the Chemistry Placement Exam at their convenience, before their scheduled ATP. To schedule an exam time, go to www.registerblast.com/wku. The exam consists of 60 questions - 20 on basic algebra, 20 on basic chemistry, and 20 on advanced chemistry.
This 55-minute timed exam requires no preparation. The results, which will be given to the student to share with the academic advisor, will indicate the course the student is eligible to take: Chemistry 116, Chemistry 120/121 or no chemistry at this time (math only). After the advisement session, ONLY those students who were advised to take Chemistry 120/121 MUST bring their results to the Department of Chemistry Office, Thompson Central Wing Rm 444, to obtain a course section PASS for the sections they plan to register for. No course pass is required for Chemistry 116 sections. Transfer students who have completed only one semester of college chemistry also need to take this placement exam.
