Instructions for the WKU Math Placement Exams

 

Please print these instructions for reference prior to beginning to take the exam.

 

Please read these instructions carefully and completely prior to moving

to the next page.

 

 

The following instructions will guide you through the On-line Math Placement exam.  You will need to complete at least the Basic Algebra Exam prior to attending your Academic Transitions Program event.  If you do not complete the placement exam prior to attending, you will be unable to register for a math course at your Academic Transition Program event.  No exceptions can be made in determining your placement into a math course.

 

Register for the Math Placement exam(s).

 

1.  To begin the exam, you must register as a new student in this class (the link is in the lower right corner of the screen).  Click on the “Register as a New Student in this class”

 

2.  Complete the form being sure to complete all required fields.

 

3.  Your Login Name can be whatever you choose.

 

4.  Your password can be whatever you select (you must enter it twice)

 

5.  Your Student ID should be your WKU Student ID number in this format 800xxxxxx (without hyphens or other symbols). 

 

6.  After completing the form you should submit the registration form by clicking on “OK” and confirm that the information you see is correct.  If the information is not correct, click on NO and correct the information.

 

7.  If the information is correct select “Yes”

 

You are ready to begin the Basic Algebra placement exam.   You will need 30 minutes to take this exam – do not click on the exam link if you do not have time to complete the exam as you will be allowed only one attempt. You will need a pencil and paper to work on some of the problems. 

 

Do your best with this exam.  Since it is a placement exam, you will be hurting yourself if you acquire assistance with this exam.  (By getting assistance, you could be placed into a course which may be outside of your abilities and your success will be compromised.) You can not fail the exam since it is used only for placement.

 

Taking the Exam

 

1.  To begin the exam, click on the exam and login using your information from steps 3 and 4 above.

 

2.  You will have the first question appear and you should select the best answer.  After you select an answer for each question click on the “Next” button at the top of the screen and continue with each question.

 

3.  You can see the “Remaining Time” to take your exam listed in the upper right hand corner of your screen.

 

4.  After you complete all questions, click on the “Grade” button on the top center of the screen.

 

5.  Click on “Quit and Save” only after you click on the “Grade” button.

 

6.  Click on “Click here to return to the class homepage”

 

Congratulations - your exam is complete.  You must take the Trigonometry and Elementary Functions exam if you want to take a calculus course as your first math course at WKU.  Otherwise, the Trigonometry exam is optional.

 

After you complete the Algebra exam, and Trigonometry exam if you so choose, you are finished with the placement exam and your scores will be ready for you at WKU on your Academic Transitions Program day.
