What
is the Academic Transitions Program?
A program required for all freshman and transfer students planning to
register for classes on the main campus or South Campus (community college).
Where
is the
Academic Transitions Program?
On the beautiful Western Kentucky University campus in Bowling Green,
Kentucky. Check-in location will be mailed to you.
What
is the purpose of the
Academic Transitions Program?
To help you become more familiar with Western Kentucky University and
to meet, in a group setting, with an academic advisor from your chosen
major (because of the number of students and limited number of advisors,
you will not be meeting with an advisor one-on-one at this point. You
will meet one-on-one with your advisor for future advisement.) You will
also register for classes and actually have a copy of your class schedule
when you leave at the end of the day.
How
long do I have to register for the
Academic Transitions Program?
Register as soon as possible (TODAY!) to ensure your spot on the
Academic Transitions Program day you choose and to give you the best selection
of classes available. (Please make your reservations two weeks in advance
of the Academic Transitions Program date you choose).
Who
should attend the
Academic Transitions Program?
All beginning freshman and transfer students planning to register for
courses on the main campus or south campus must attend the Academic Transitions
Program to meet with an academic advisor and register for classes. This
will be your only opportunity to advance register. All students are required
to meet with an academic advisor before registering. Students planning
to attend an regional campus location should contact that campus location.
Should
my parents attend?
WKU wants to involve parents of its students in the college experience;
therefore, we designed a parent's program that will run separately but
simultaneously with yours. Parents are welcome.
How
long does the
Academic Transitions Program
last?
Freshmen should plan to attend the entire day. You will need to attend
the morning sessions in order to meet with an academic advisor and register
for classes in the afternoon. If you are a transfer student there are
two half-day programs to choose from for Fall registration (not Spring).
Is
there a fee for the
Academic Transitions Program?
Yes. The fee is $45 per student plus $6.00 for each
additional parent or guest for the Academic Transitions Program. This
fee is non-refundable. You will be prompted to pay by credit card when
you sign up.
What
is the schedule like on the Academic
Transitions Program
day?
The day begins for students with an opening welcome assembly, followed
by a panel discussion and an orientation assembly. After lunch, you will
meet with an academic advisor in your major and then register for classes.
Your parents will also attend the opening welcome assembly with you, after
which there are a number of information sessions for them to choose from.
After they meet you for lunch, a panel discussion is held as well as additional
information sessions.
How
do I reserve an Academic
Transitions Program
date?
You must sign up on this website.
What
will I receive before the Academic
Transitions Program?
You will receive a confirmation email upon registration. You will also
receive additional information in the mail a week before your date.
How
do I register for classes at regional campus locations? (Glasgow, Owensboro,
Elizabethtown, Ft. Knox)
Students wanting to register for regional campus classes are not required
to attend the Academic Transitions Program on the main campus in Bowling
Green. To register for an Academic Transitions Program at the Glasgow
Campus, please click here.
For the other regional campuses, please contact the campus center you
are interested in attended for orientation and/or registration instructions.
Elizabethtown: (270) 769-1614, Owensboro: (270) 745-5095 or (270) 684-9797,
Fort Knox: (270) 351-1192.
What
if I have been admitted to Western, but have not made a final decision
about attending at this point?
Although most students who attend the Academic Transitions Program do
begin classes at WKU, if you are undecided about your college selection,
we would encourage you to attend Orientation at WKU so we can show you
why Western Kentucky University would be the best place for you to continue
your education.
What
alternate options are available for registration?
Readmission students may participate in priority registration with currently
enrolled students as outlined in the Registration Guide. If registering
with currently enrolled students, pay close attention to dates for registration
because the alphabetical sequence is enforced.
Regional
campus students (those students registering for courses that meet other
than at the main or south campus) are not required to attend the
Academic Transitions Program on the main campus in Bowling Green. A regional
campus student may register at the regional Campus Center closest to the
location of the class(es) for which the student wishes to enroll.
What
happens after I sign up online?
You will receive a confirmation email within 24 hours and a confirmation
card in the mail.
How
do I receive transcript evaluation of credit earned from another college
or university?
General Education Transfer Reports (for students who are transferring
to WKU from another college or university) are mailed to students after
they are admitted to the University. Additional copies and updates are
available at the following web address: www.topnet.wku.edu.
Another copy of this report will be included in your packet of materials
given to you at check-in on your Academic Transitions Program date. Your
advisor will also receive a copy prior to your advisement session.
