Dr. Walter N. Scott
Western Kentucky University received a $500,000 commitment from
Dr. Walter N. Scott to establish the
Scott Professorship in Biology. This gift will be funded through
Mr. Scott's estate plan.
Scott, a 1956 WKU graduate, is a physician and professor of biology
at New York University in New York, New York.
"My gift to Western is simply a payback for what
it gave me. I came there as an old country boy to get trained
for medical school, and I was able to finish that training in
three years. I owe a great deal to many people at Western."
- Dr. Walter N. Scott ('56)
According to Tom Hiles, vice president for Development and
Alumni Relations, a gift through an estate plan is an excellent
way to make a major commitment to the University. "A
donor may stipulate that a certain percentage of his estate, a
certain dollar amount, or particular securities or other assets
be given to Western," he said. "We are very
grateful that Dr. Scott has made this generous leadership commitment.
It will be a lasting legacy to his life and his outstanding professional
career"
