The Office of Development garners private support in order to implement the priorities of the University’s strategic plan.
Despite Western Kentucky University’s designation as a state-assisted university, it receives less than 40 percent of its operating budget from the Commonwealth. While public funds secure a base of funding for the University, private philanthropic support is essential as we create a margin of excellence that will produce exceptional achievements and ensure the best faculty and the brightest students. To enjoy continued success, we must look to loyal Western alumni and friends who share a bold vision for the future.
The Office of Development strives to raise money for endowed scholarships, faculty positions and development, university programs, and facility improvements. Unrestricted gifts are particularly valued because they allow Western to respond quickly to special opportunities such as inviting a visiting scholar to speak or purchasing an important piece of equipment or a rare book. In addition, scholarships and/or underwriting programs may be funded in the areas of greatest need.
Western Kentucky University is fortunate to have alumni, friends, and parents whose loyalty and financial support has enriched student opportunities, built and maintained a beautiful campus and supported an outstanding faculty. Every gift is important to us. We have numerous giving levels and recognition societies to acknowledge our donors. Private support to Western is making the difference in offering a good education to our students and receiving a great one.Thank you for believing in Western and creating an educational environment where students live the motto “The Spirit Makes The Master.
