Yarmouk-WKU Academic Exchange
May1-4, 2007
Dr. Fahmi Ghazwi visits WKU for an institutional exchange session.
Yarmouk's radio courses prepare students to work at Yarmouk FM and beyond. Using WKU as a model, Yarmouk seeks to integrate Yarmouk FM into all radio production courses. The courses offer students direct impact on the programming, operations, and management of Yarmouk FM. This will enable Yarmouk students to improve vastly their individual experience in media management and radio production before graduation and enable them to excel as media professionals.
The goal of the WKU session is to exchange ideas with WKU faculty, students, and administrators to modify Yarmouk's current Yarmouk courses to meet the needs of students.
The activities completed thus far include:
- November 2006:
WKU to provide a course comparison document to present ideas on courses to update, modify, and add to the Yarmouk program
- January 2007:
WKU to provide Yarmouk current radio curriculum and syllabi. The entire set of course descriprtions are found at http://www.wku.edu/Journalism/courses.htm
- March 2007:
IJMMT facilitated a weeklong session with Yarmouk's faculty committee to begin the work plan and implementation schedule for a revised undergraduate curriculum to support the needs and opportunities of Yarmouk FM that will include a timeline, faculty needs, and facilities need. IJMMT's trainers were Dr. Pam Johnson, Director - WKU's School of Journalism and Broadcasting and Kevin Willis, Assistant News Director - Western's Public Radio.
