The Department of Telecommunications is responsible for the support, coordination and billing of
voice communications services to the faculty, staff, and students of WKU. Formerly Telephone
Communications, a part of Network Computing and Communications, we have been our own department
within the Division of Information Technology since January 2000.
Our department consists of three main functional units: Administrative Support (Van Meter 114/116),
Technical Support (Van Meter basement switchroom), and Student Support (Student Telephone Services,
DUC 128).

Mission Statement
The Department of Telecommunications provides and maintains a comprehensive voice communications
system utilized to service the needs of Western Kentucky University faculty, staff, students, and correspondents. Services provided
include: campus, local, and long distance calling; voice mail; facsimile reception and transmission; campus main switch board; wire
communications pathways for the campus voice network and other signalling circuits; and planning and engineering for telephone services.
Vision Statement
Telecommunications plans to pursue excellence in delivery of voice services offered to all campus entities. In an
effort to provide quality, cost effective voice services, Telecommunications will strive to develop external partnerships
that will result in new technology implementation. The shared goal of Technology and Telecommunications is to support, at
the highest possible level the seamless delivery of communications services to Western Kentucky University.
