Crime Prevention Tips


At your residence hall or apartment...

  • Don't let strangers into your residence hall.
  • Report crimes and suspicious activity to the police immediately.
  • Don't allow strangers in your room.
  • Get IDs from maintenance or repair people who want access into your room.
  • Lock your doors and windows whenever you leave the room.
  • Don't prop open the door to your residence.
  • Don't leave notes on your door indicating you aren't there.
  • Record serial numbers and take photographs of your valuables.
  • Engrave valuables with an engraver and record descriptive information on an inventory record sheet.
  • Take the time to secure your valuables and lock up your bicycles.
  • Don't be the victim of a crime because you didn't take the time to lock up your valuables.
